My favourite line in this was "he put too much damned air on this roof" (should be 2 'o's in "too" by the way =]), I like the image of too much air, and the stars getting lost in the atmosphere half way through falling. It's good the way you talk about these beautiful images in the context of conflict, it's very subtle and effective.
