I'm wondering about the significance of using pronouns instead of the characters names. Are they supposed to represent archetypes? Are they supposed to be anonymous? Strangers the reader never gets to know? Considering the brevity of this story, I feel like it's just another factor alienating the reader from the characters. Is it "all she could do is smile" or "all she could do was smile"? |
