concerto49 2008-07-14 . chapter 1Yes, creativity can be in many forms, and poetry is definitely one of them. It can be anything really, and so the possibilities are endless. We all have different reasons to write too, definitely. Not to say that stories aren't good too. Some nice comparisons there. Cheers. |
Nemonus 2008-07-13 . chapter 1Excellent. So enthusiastic! I really like "It’s an expression of emotions we hold so deep within ourselves that we don’t even know they exist. It’s the graceful dancing of purity and grandeur behind a crude, destructive mask of antipathy. It’s artistry;"
I felt that the connection between poetry and cutting and/or drugs was a little...random? Not fully developed? Too loose a connection? It was shock value at first, but then...never solidified into a metaphor that is clear and doesn't seem to condone such addictive actions. I agree that writing is an addiction, but it's not harmful, and especially in a school book I don't think it should be compared to things that are, even if those things also help one explore/confront/deal with oneself just like poetry does. (I really like the phrase "maybe not as innocent, and maybe not as ignorant", though.)
Nice comparison to music. This is an essay dense with ideas and metaphors, and, while the first paragraph's latter half is my favorite bit, it is all pretty good. Its very enthusiasm, as I said, makes me want to elevate the level of my writing to something worthy of "everything we have when it seems like nothing’s left." and "a level so radiant and subtle that very few can even dream of imagining it." |
