I can almost hear that laugh, the darkness behind it, and the speaker in question too enraptured by the wonder of that boy, the nearness of him, his eyes hair hands mouth - to care.

I liked the first paragraph, but the second seems too metaphorical. maybe I just don't get it, but it seems like two different styles here.
