Well, I've got this idea that this poem is about the differences and distances between two people in a relationship. Am I right on that? Anyway, good poem here. I adore how this poem's structure plays with each of the four cardinal directions, evoking strong natural imagery. 'And yet', the poem laments: for all of nature's seemingly absolute power to mold the landscape, it can't do a thing to change whatever has caused this couple to drift apart. The poem illustrates this kind of hopeless feeling very well.

I especially liked the lines about the rain softening the tallest trees. This is a touching piece.
