This is wonderful! I love the story and the way you wrote it, not to mention the Tesla reference.

i liked this story, it was well-written and the plot was good. i can't help but feel sorry for sam though, going from being a vegetarian to a blood-drinking vampire xD also, i wish that constantin had lived p
Rhoddrin 2/11/11 . chapter 1
I quite liked this story, it was quite refreshing yet still like a warm blanket (a post fairy tale feeling, though I felt that the end was kinda rushed and a bit cramped. I enjoyed the slightly quirky humor too, bodering on the black side of it.

Jaded Devil 11/19/10 . chapter 1
Aw, I really enjoyed reading this story! Dracula's story made me sad :( as well as Constantin's death, but I'm glad that Sam and Jack end up together. I also really like the ending, it's a nice touch. :)

This is a lovely tale you've written here!

Now, I only have two gripes with it to speak of...

The first concerns the fact that you decided to allocate Sam's last name to Tesla. This for me, detracts a bit from the -fantasy- of the piece as it makes references to the real life Nikola Tesla, though that's just my own feeling towards it. Admittedly this made me a little unsure at first, and my worries were later diminished. It actually shouldn't matter that much...

The second is how the language/dialogue is a little bit inconsistent at times... which ultimately leads me to the assumption that you aren't British. Though I'm Australian-raised myself, so that concludes me to say that I don't think I'm actually eligible to really elaborate on that.

Both are just minor pet peeves (I couldn't do any better) but otherwise, the story is drenched in awesome. I loved the characters, especially Jack, the lush imagery and well, pretty much everything else. Suffice to say that the story does actually improve upon embarking from the start to finish.

Personally, I adore the last paragraph.

I am usually doubtful about the majority of vampire lit. (read: Smeyer), but the steampunk touches convinced me to read on. And I must say, I was not disappointed! This is probably the longest review I've written (among the few I've ever written) on this site, so I must be boring you to death right now with my terribly sloppy comments. To finish off:

Great going! Really enjoyed reading it and hope to see more stuff like this from you soon!

Blue GhostGhost 7/1/10 . chapter 1
I really love this story and keep finding myself coming back to it. I am thrilled that it ends in San Francisco, since I am so deeply in love with the city myself. "His lips were nestled into my neck, murmuring foreign prayers into my still-aching jawbone." Perfect.

Way cool. Everything about this is awesome, from the title to the premise to the self-sacrificing manservant. Go you!
lessxordinary 5/12/09 . chapter 1
This is a fun, lovely piece of writing. At some places, you really captured a turn of the century feel. The scene in Jack's bedroom, with the opium pipe, was extremely well-written and surreal. At places, though, you do tend to slip out of old fashioned vocabulary, such as where Sam is first confessing his love, it seems out of place. Also, you could try and improve your voice a little to make it an even stronger story.

Still, it's a gorgeous piece, and well-written. Ah, a steam-punk slash vampire story? What could be more perfect.
