Tawny Owl 2009-09-05 . chapter 8
You are very good at building atmosphere by concentrating on the really mundane things like ** yellow letters and the fact that someone may be a college student or a high school student.

The atmosphere was helped by the image of strangers on a train (without names, or rather not knowing each others names) and the fact that they didn’t notice or care when one of their number vanished.

This was short – but I think it’s my favourite.

Gripping start - and yes, a good twist that wasn't too obscure. I liked the fact it was a parrott (ah, the rhymes and scarlett make sense. I was thinking of her as a little old woman cackling in the corner) kind of adds to Nicholas' mental instability.
Tawny Owl 2009-08-01 . chapter 5
This felt really ageless, like it could have been set at almost any time.

It's not as spine chilling as the others but there's a kind of underlying creepiness that's raised by all the qustions - like why Cain's mother was convinced that he killed his brother and why she comitted suicide after the birth.

I think Cain's apparent curious detachment to everything that happened added to this.
Tawny Owl 2009-08-01 . chapter 4
oh, nasty twist.

I liked your description of the stone and the springy moss. It was strange at first that the main character was used to talking to the lion - and having it talk back, but because of the type of story I accepted it almost immediately.

There was a very bleak outdoors feel to this that I think you captured really well.

I think I’d be scared of beautiful women too if they had a habit of doing that. The way you dropped in the information about Jonathan’s situation a bit at a time was really well done. It was a shock to know that he was tied up and that really added to the piece because you didn’t make it feel like you had been deliberately hiding it from us.

“Will you give me your heart, dearest Jonathan? Or do I have to take it?” – Oh my god, and here was me thinking she was going to aim for something lower down!

This was really nasty, but still quite good fun. Mostly because of the woman’s dialogue. “But I’m a bit… impatient, you see.” – wicked, really.

I would have liked more of how Johnathon was feeling. When the piece started it did feel like we were seeing things from his point of view and his emotional reaction would have added to it.
Tawny Owl 2009-07-20 . chapter 2
Oh, wow – loved the description of the sickness as this almost gungy, icky monster with intent behind it. That was really enjoyable to read. There were so many brilliant bits in this, lie the skin settling like dust.

The image of this horrible, decaying woman putting on mascara was repulsive, but almost sad if you thought about it too hard.

It was truly gruesome, and the twist that she was sick inside as well was just the icing on the cake.
celestial tears 2009-07-03 . chapter 8
The last two chapters and therefore my last two reviews, relieved? Anyway, I did like the twist in the end of seven just as I liked the ending of eight. I wonder what goes on in your head when you write these. Out of all the stories, I think number 1 was my favorite-not that you asked. Thank you for the good reads.
celestial tears 2009-07-03 . chapter 6
As you can see, I am reviewing two at a time. Five and six were ok, I am curious to see where "Cain and "Abel" goes, but I must admit that six was too lovey-emo for my tastes-though I did like the line about not leaving but taking the person with you. It's sick, in a nice kind of way.
celestial tears 2009-07-03 . chapter 4
Story three-Earlier today I watched Three Extremes: Cut, and when reading this story my mind automatically placed it in the setting of the movie. It seemed very fitting somehow considering the content. I do hate jealous, crazy women.
Story four-I really liked this one and the humor at the end. These stories definitely work best standing as short passages of horror.
celestial tears 2009-07-03 . chapter 1
Call me slow but only when I was three chapters in did I realize that each story was...separate from the one before it. That being said, I adore the gore and mystery along with the overwhelming sense of despair I have received from both story 1 and 2.
I knew that reading this was going to be enjoyable when the words "partially devoured body that sat..." came into view. Morbid as it may be, I love reading stories like these. Thank you.
So, should I write a review for each story...would seem easier than to wait until the last one and jumble eberything together but I don't want to be a nuisance.
Tawny Owl 2009-07-01 . chapter 1
Oh my god, truly gruesome and gory. It did actually make me cringe, and that doesn’t happen very often. I think it was being able to see Kaylee’s teeth that did it. Saying that I was going to ask for more detail, especially with regard to the home surgery, but now I’m thinking that it’s the lack of detail, and the bluntness of the description, that makes it so shocking. It almost feels that the gore is an everyday occurrence and that makes it worse.

I did wonder whether Kaylee would be able to talk so well when so up her own face, surely the movement would have had a knock on effect?

I did like the way you dropped us straight into the aftermath. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for some kind of revelation. I guess I’ll have to keep reading.

Lithium of Mercy 2009-06-26 . chapter 8
B-r-i-l-l-i-a-n-t. I just got through watching a show called Mononoke, which has a haunted train arc, so this hit me at exactly the right time. And thank god for that! Wonderful job on this. I like your Alfred Hitchcock-esque look into the minds of the people around the vanished woman. It adds such a perceptive depth.

Keep up the good work!
Hush The Voices 2009-06-26 . chapter 8
That's really good. Like extremely. I could see it as being a short film. Artsy.

:)
Kashy Wants Revenge 2009-04-25 . chapter 7
