Very interesting... as a biracial person (half Korean, half Caucasian) I remember not being aware of the difference between me and my friends up until I was about 10. You capture the father's rage very well - I've personally never been attacked like he seems to have been (btw, it would be interesting to see what the backstory is, the first event that required a personal apology), but it's still very easy to empathize with his anger and frustration. One thing I am a little puzzled by is why his first reaction to realizing the dolls were not his daughter's would be anger... I would think he might feel some remorse for not paying attention to his daughter's explanation the night before? At any rate, very thought provoking story.

I liked how it ended. And how he totally screwed himself up!

I was super confused in general though and had a hard time following what his deal was. They are black? With a name like Otto Sauda, and a wife names Nyah, I pictured a different ethnicity. Like an immigrant - and from my experience and from what I know, ethnic immigrants don't have any like inferiority complexes where they feel they have to prove themsleves and aren't as defensive about race, etc. Just something to think about.

Anyway ... I guess my point, honestly, is that I had a hard time following what led to his whole anxiety over his daughter having white dolls. Like the whole beginning section totally confused me and I didn't understand how it connected to the rest of the story really. The last half (or really third part) was the strongest and when I "got" what was going on, etc.

But it could have just been me. Maybe I don't get Chekov. hehe.

I would like to see more :D

I'm not much of a writer, but I thought this one was really good. It flowed better than Kiko's Baby. Very descriptive, very emotional.
