Very well written. My suggestion though is that you might add a tragedy subcategory tag to it.
And I'm forced to wonder, does he actually move on with his life, or is this prompting a permanent set-back for him? Dang it, lol, I'm addicted and want to know more now!

I was on the edge throughout the entire story.

So did Grin commit suicide in the present, without Ebs to stop him? (I feel like that last section wasn't part of the flashback.) This entire story is kind of heartbreaking. I feel so sad for Nez.

Oh, I was not expecting that. I did, however, like the two casual promises in this chapter, which contrast Ebs much more serious promise. And, of course, that he ended up breaking one of those promises.

I can't wait for the next chapter! I can already tell I'll like reading this as a whole once it's finished.

I like how you set quite a bit up with the dialogue without slipping into exposition-speak. I'm also quite curious about the shoes.

Ooh this sounds like it could get very, very interesting. Some tense errors and a few other minor things, but other than that you're still one of my favs. Your uber intense imagery never fails to make a dream-like scene, which is just wicked neat.
