Reviews For: A Step in Glass Slippers
stars.are.watching 2009-07-20 . chapter 4
Ooh, Ella accidentally framed her sister? I can't wait to see what her stepmother is going to have to say about that. (Though I wonder how she was going to hide it from Ana to begin with - so far, Ana doesn't seem like the type to accept something stolen like that. Lacking in confidence, yes, but not a shoplifter.)

Oh, and "clepto" is actually spelled "klepto". Just thought I'd point that out. =)

WHoa, this is looking to be great! I can't wait to finish reading it!

I like the role reversal here, because it adds an interesting dynamic. Instead of Cinderella trying to appeal to the step-sisters, we see Ana trying to gain Ella's approval, instead.

I also like how fake the whole thing seems, with the two girls complimenting each other, because it's very realistic, and makes it easier to relate to the two characters.

Happy writing!

Wait, so this is in a more modern setting? I hadn't even realized that, so I was a little confused at first when you talked about the mother pulling over onto the shoulder. But I like it, because it's a refreshing change, especially since some other elements of the story seem more old-fashioned.

I think the only thing I have a problem with so far is the chapter length, because it's a little short right now. I feel like the relationships could be developed a little better if you lengthened the chapters a little, explained some things better. For instance, why hasn't the mother noticed anything for a year? I'd assume that it would be the death of her husband, but it would be an interesting dimension if you added a little of that in, got inside her head a little more.

I like that you're writing this from the step-mother's POV, because we never really get to see her side of the story. I also like that you've turned her into an actual person, instead of just "the evil step-mother."

I also like how different Ella is from our usual conception of Cinderella, because it allows some room for the reader to decide whether or not she's the "good guy", instead of just being told like we usually are.

I don't think you realize this, but this is the Fantasy poetry section. You're story should be in the story section.

I like it. I'll give it maybe four stars.
Not amazing, maybe, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I love how the stepmother cares so much for Ella, and how observant, yet human, she seems. The stepmother (Does she have a name?) seems very real and relateable, and I really like that.
And I like how the sisters each have their own personality- they aren't just grouped together as one like in other Cinderella stories.
Again, I liked it a lot.
Good job. =)

I like the different take that you have taken with this story. Thanks

I'd give it about three and a half stars- and given how picky I am about prose, that's far from a bad review.
I like the idea of telling the story from the 'evil' stepmother's point of view a lot, as well as making Ella rather...well, promiscuous. I also love that it's factored in that Ella lost her father- and the stepmother lost her husband- a year ago.
They never seemed to mention that in the movies.
I think my only problems are that it was much too short, so I can't really review properly, and that...well, Ellen was better, and a lot more eloquent.
But you can't exactly judge a story by saying that another of the author's was better.
So I suppose my only problem was it's length.
Other then that, I think it was very creative and original, and certainly more interesting then most Cinderella story-introductions.
