Wouldn't say it's the most exhaustive description of poetry(rinsing the soul from existential grime is just one facet, there is the fulfilling of your drive for creation, expression, beauty, order, symbol-creation etc) but of course you needn't make a lecture of a simple poem- too much indoctrination would be a severe blow to an otherwise pretty charming poem. I enjoyed the last lines, tears spot the pages, washing all traces, far far far away- it's severely emotional and I felt a brief shudder permeate my soul.
