Now, I'm not gay myself (as you know). However, I was raised in a family where you are taught to respect others for their beliefs, no matter if you share them or not. My uncle is gay, and I have had friends that are gay, and the amount of intolerance in this country just blows my mind. I will admit that I've made jokes before in the company of my own home, but nothing derogatory like "lesbos" or anything like that. I also despise the "f" word for gay people.

Anyway, back to my point. Um, yeah, I really think that the media (& society in general) either need to write more books or make more TV shows & movies that portray gay women (and men) in a positive way. Or even straight women, for that matter. Even though I'm straight, it doesn't mean that I think gay people are disgusting. Far from it. You love who you love.

I don't think you're being too sensitive over this. This is an issue that obviously is very important to you, and if I were in your position, I would feel the exact same way.

There are idiots everywhere. You just have to know how to spot the good people in the crowd of them.

I'm afraid though that it comes in a bit pale, on a scale of 1 to 10 of 'angsty' this would be a 3.

Maybe try and either (a) use a deeper exploration of the subjective feeling (imagery maybe) to give an intimate view and sense of what it feels like to be a 3 on the 'angsty' scale, or (b) drop the tone of angst completely and go more from a 'feeling lost' angle.

Readers might be more sympathetic to it then.
