Morohtar 2009-01-28 . chapter 1Well, I am here reviewing this story because I write "pay it forward" in every review I give, and when someone asks ME to "pay it forward" I review three stories (one from the person who reviewed me if I can, and the rest are the latest ones put up on the site). And, right now, that is YOU!
I like the stark quality of this - it is a single scene with staging, but the staging almost seems an emphemeral afterthought - the words and interpersonal relationships here are the main thing. I am reminded of the movie "Conspiracy" which discussed the Final Solution - that focused on similar things. The characterization is well done and the dialog does not seem to beat the listener over the head; everyone says what they would say, even if this were not a play.
Except for the fourth-wall-breaking speeches, of course - and that is a very cool addition. The characters are able to interact with the audience, offering information which would be clumsy if delivered in dialog, or could not be delivered at all. This is something common to many plays, but by making it so obvious here we have something very interesting and effective. I'd really like to see this acted out.
All in all, a great piece. Pay it forward! |
