I've staring at the two last sentences as if hypnotised. It's like a puzzle I can never ever solve.

That was spine-chillingly, positively eerie. And I'm a connoisseur of horror movies, so that's saying something. sort of made me rethink my whole plan about becoming a hermit.

What you did especially well with was building up fear of this thing, this unknown. The less you tell us about it, the better. I would get rid of the lion's paw though. It kind of ruined the moment for me (but that's just my opinion).
