Kilian 2009-09-13 . chapter 17Good story, the style had me laughing for a moment. But all in all it was a plus for the story, I especially loved that you told us about the other charaters of the story (lucky Kit) it all quite good and I'm glad I took the time to read all of it. So hanks for the story. |
mintyfish 2009-08-04 . chapter 17Ha ha, very nice. I wonder if you've read Sins of the Cities of the Plain? It's basically Victorian PWP and hilariously filthy but you did such a good job with the setting here that yours really reminds me of it, which is impressive considering SCP is the 'real deal'. Only yours has, you know, plot and characters you actually care about. Charles' attachment to Noah is somewhat abrupt and I liked Thomps best, but I can see why you did what you did, and the offhand style of writing leant itself to that sort of abruptness in a way that wouldn't have worked otherwise. It was all strangely soothing to read. Keep it up. |
Tinyyellowboxes 2009-07-18 . chapter 17Good story! XD I like how you tried to stay as historically accurate as possible. You also a stayed away from a hard core M rating in this one, or so I thought. I liked it. I may have liked your others better but I still liked it. Thanks for the good read and I can't wait for your fall piece. |
American Schokolade 2009-06-23 . chapter 17I've been gone from FP for too long, and I keep looking for the review button on the left hand side instead of the middle. Ha, ha, ha...
Anyway, I finally got around to reading this story. I've been meaning to for a while, but, well, you know. I was a little apprehensive about it when I saw that note on the first chapter, about you trying a new style and it not really working out, but actually I rather do like the style of this story, if only because it seems to fit with the history theme of it, plus the fact that it takes place over a span of several years.
The only thing I didn't like about this story was Charles. He...basically lacked any defining characteristics, and while I didn't want Noah to end up with Kit (because somehow I thought if that had happened, Noah would probably die of tuberculosis or be hanged or something), I also didn't want him to end up with Charles because Charles wasn't much of a character. So, because there was no other option, I was sort of hoping that Noah would die at sea, or that he would come back to find that Charles had been hanged, or something. And I usually don't hope for unhappy endings, so...yeah.
Actually, my favorite character was Thomps, so I was kind of secretly hoping that Noah would run into him at sea and those two would have lived happily ever after...except I wasn't really hoping that because that would have been stupid. Stupid in the way that this entire review is stupid. I'm sorry.
Anyway, I did enjoy it overall, so all is well and good in the end. Keep it up.
Oh, yeah, and I wish we could order our favorite authors based on how much we like them, like you can with your friends on Myspace. You'd be up there on mine, if I could. Just so you know. |
Ray Murata 2009-06-13 . chapter 1Haha ! I feel silly now. Only minutes before I had reviwed both of your stories, and I was studying (should have been, but as you can see, my mind was wandering on about other things), did I remember that "In Theory" is actually in first person speech (and I went to check to make sure my memory was serving me right)
So I guess at least "In theory" is an exception to the rule about liking third person speech better, since it's my favorite story here at FictionPress.
Oh well.. Figures. xD Sorry for bothering. I just had to point that out (before you did!) |
Ray Murata 2009-06-13 . chapter 17That "epilogue" was epic! Such an awesome idea. ♥
I'm in a lack of words about this work of yours... I guess there's not much (aside from that very ending/epilogue) I'd like to point out as “awesomely amazing” or as “not that good”. It was a very pleasurable read, and I really, really enjoyed this plot of yours. It was different, intriguing, and entertaining. I like how you seemed to adapt the vocabulary so well to the historical context of your story – And I must also add there were some really amazing sentences structures on it (I remember pointing them out to my boyfriend while I read the first chapter, saying “Look at this paragraph! So… beautiful! The words flow so wonderfully and rhythmically!” xD He shrugged, but then again, he knows nothing about the words' beauty.)
And, I’ll take the space here at my Noah’s review to quickly reply to the reply you sent me on For all Water’s review (o_õ I know, this was a bizarre sentence):
I would have truly enjoyed if Seb would have ended with Marcus. Though your beta was right to say most readers would turn out to be disappointed with 20 chapters of “angst” and then a broke up, I do believe there are some readers who like realistic turn of events, even if they happen to be “sad”. I don’t think losing someone you’ve loved is the worst thing in earth – It makes you stronger. And other people come along, ‘cause one thing that Earth doesn’t lack is people. Therefore, I’d have found it really adequate (and happy, even) if you had kept your original ending… But then again, I know I’m part of a minority. It’s good to know that’s how you had planned the ending, though. It made me think (even) better of you (weirdly enough, I’m a reader who enjoys the unexpected and sad endings better than the “happily ever after” ones).
With love

luredbyvenus 2009-06-06 . chapter 17 This was a great story, I really enjoyed it. All of your characters were very likable. I'm glad you gave us a little epilogue for all of the characters at the end. :) |
Bedraggled Artelier 2009-05-31 . chapter 17Thank you so much for the end stories! It's nice to known that everyone lived happily ever after, not just the phrase. |
PyroTech 2009-05-29 . chapter 17parts of that turned out differently then I expected...when Charles found out about Noah and Kit I thought that Noahs relation with the two were over and he was gunna go back to sea where he would find and get together with Thomps...big surprise to me when that didn't happen lol...cool that he got together with Charles though...he was sorta cool...and lmao on what happened to Kitty with that one chick ^^ |
aurora borealis 2009-05-29 . chapter 17Good ending. :) I love this story. Great work.
Haha, når du sier "det er den tiden på året" (i forhold til eksamener) høres du ut som det er en stund siden du sist hadde eksamen, for å si det sånn... :D Men ja. Det er den tiden på året. Sukk. ;P
Gleder meg til neste historie! :) |
 James Hiwatari 2009-05-29 . chapter 17MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHA!
Can't stop laughing about Kit's ending there... My mental image of the gender-bender couple will keep me grinning for a while... =D
And it was a happy ending! I had so much trouble thinking of all the possible catastrophes...
But, hey, I love happy endings. I'm a happy person, you see. The only reason I keep thinking about bad endings is bacause I don't like to have negative surprises. So if I think the worst, I will either have guessed the truth or be pleasantly surprised by a happy ending. That is a very good tactic.
I liked the "Oh, so Noah and CHarles were happy forever. Now for the other characters" part. I feel a bit sorry for Thomps, though. And you made me love Kit again. =D (I still liked him a bit, even though he was a pain in the ass to Noah, but I'm back to loving him and making him my favourite character. Though his wife is amazing too...)
Ah, well... I'm getting around to answer a bunch of e-mails today, you might hear of me soon.

 Mademoiselle Rouge 2009-05-28 . chapter 17Hey!
Great story, as usual. I love how all your stories and characters are different, and how well you write.
Noah Murcutt was really good. All the characters are very elaborated - Kit, too, even if in the end he's not really important in the love story. Noah's developpement is great, too. I like how we're introduced to his uncle, then Thomps, the guys at the bording house, Kit, Charles and Digger.
I also liked that you described 19th century London as it really was - most authors on FP just go for the huge houses and really rich people, although there really were starving people everywhere.
It's not my favorite (I absolutely adored For All Waters and In Theory) but I think that's mainly because I was expecting that the story would mostly happen on the ship - that Noah would meet a man he loves while at sea.
Can't wait to read your next story ! |
 la-vita-bella 2009-05-28 . chapter 17Oh goodness.
That was so uplifting. I don't think I've actually been on fictionpress in quite a while, but I got an email alerting me of the 17th installment of this story (which I had never even read before, but had you on author-alert). And by chance I clicked the link, and started at chapter one. In a few short hours I finished the story, much to the dismay of my English thesis which is still lacking a conclusion though it is quite early in the morning and the paper is due today. I have no regrets though as this was a wonderful story. Uplifting and very well written. It made me smile the entire way through. Oh, and the historical accuracy is striking! I'm a major history buff, planning to pursue it in college, so I'm always so wary when coming across a period piece. But this was excellent. And truthfully, I did find the tidbit about the bridge to be exceedingly interesting, as is just my mindset. This was a wonderful tale. And I'm am so looking foward to revisiting fictionpress as an active member once again and reading your future works! Goodbye for now! |
Rue Street 2009-05-28 . chapter 17Well I don't exactly know what to say. Its sad to see its the end of Noah's tale, but its a good ending. I was waiting for this chapter since the last and checked my email constantly.
I'll miss this story, and Noah, and Charles, but I look forward to your autumn story! I'm glad Noah and Charles had a good ending, and I think I like the thought that even Thomps had one...even if we have no idea what happened to him. -FG |
Dramatizer 2009-05-28 . chapter 17IT'S THE FINAL CHAPTER, DUDUDUDU, DUDUDUDUDU DU-DU-DU-DU-DU DUDUDUDUDUDUDU DUDUDU DUDUDUDUDUDUDU DU DU DUDLUDLU ~ (Final Countdown, if you were wondering.)
Oh my god it's over. I'm so happy for Kit. And yay, Noah didn't unexpectedly die or something. Hah. Still a bit overwhelmed, so I'm not completely here. But dude. I love you. This story is fantastic. |
