Whoa, it's like Narnia!

I do want to point out one thing, though. I think part of the chapter is missing. Here is the section that makes me think so:

They paced along the wall, Tourmaline keeping a weather eye out for drones while Sister Aster consulted her pendulum. He’d inquired what the ring on a string was in aid of but became lost somewhere in the lengthy reply."

I don't know how much is missing, but I think at the very least a few letters got cut off.

I like the setting and characters. Main character with an eye patch, intriguing choice. I like your trademark mixing between old world fantasy and high tech sci fi. Overall, neato. I think it could benefit from a generous sprinkling of commas, since the dialogue seems kind of stiff with phrases and clauses all running into one another, but otherwise quite, quite good.

Aw, this story was so cute. You say you're going to have more of this world? I can't wait.
