Isca 2009-05-08 . chapter 1"No birds take flight over the plains below, where our tribes and notions are destined soon to clash." At first, I thought no birds would fly over the plain because it was sacred ground, but the second part suggests that war is coming, and it is destruction that drives the air-creatures away. Lovely imagery. :)
"Astride my war chariot." That reminds me of Apollo.
"Faith is the currency exchange between the Atman and the phenomenal world." You know, I'm not usually a fan of monetary metaphors, but this one is creative, so I approve. Also, nice touch of Hinduism and/or Buddhism with the word 'Atman.'
"I yearn to be as a great arrow of yew pulled back...on the bow of Brahma." You are the tool of the gods, E.B., and a great one, if I do say so myself. :) |
Louis Denair 2009-05-08 . chapter 1Interesting introduction of philosophical elements. Phenomenal world vs 'Atman', spiritual world. Body vs spirit. Religion vs empircism. A vision of a future battle(field)- but a battle for what? This lingering question gives the poem a quality of challenging the reader, including him in the battle, the struggle for clarity.
The tone of the poem has a tone that, to me, is like the smell of roses, like a drug that throws you into a stunted state of awe-inspired attentiveness. The romantic, almost heroic tone underlining the bravery and perseverance of the lyrical subject, of the future warrior. |
