The chest reminds me a lot of Pandora's Box, except it was by her choice that it was opened. In this poem, it's by the narrator's choice that it stayed closed for so long. Maybe I'm reading too much into this poem, but that's what I get.

We all have our secrets that we hide from the world. Some would say that this is unfortunate, and maybe so, but there's also nothing wrong with keeping something precious safe within your heart. :)

Your detail in this was very organic - the usage of chest, ribs, heart mirrored with sinister, foreboding, and mine.

It was dark, but enjoyable.
