Reviews For: Mary Magdalene :The Essay
RandomUserForTheology 2009-10-06 . chapter 1
I think with Mary Magdellen you have an example of a faithful female follower of Jesus. Clearly history presents her as a powerful figure given that she was the first to witness the empty tomb, in of itself is strange (if the gospels were made up) and she clearly had a deep relationship with Jesus as she cries at his death.

Though I'm not implying they had relations, such a theory as presented in the da vinci Code is preposterous. That being said, there is little we can know of the Mary Magdalena, besides whom faith and witness to the apparent resurrection is a testament to her importance. I don't think it is likely she was a preacher, could have been, but most likely not. And even if she was, she was probably stamped out because of the culture of that time. The early Church and Jesus understood this and that is why he had Male disciples and followers. Though we don't diminish the importance of female worshipers. Paul clearly praises women in his letters and addresses them as prophesying in Church, thus they had a significant role within the body of Christ. I believe one of Paul's letters was delivered to a woman.

That being said, the film doesn't interest me. It might make me think a little, but from the description you described, not at all interested.

Nice movie review. But it didn't make me want to see it.
