I like your story so far. I do wish she'd gone straight to the police, if not when she was getting abused then at least when she ran away after hearing her mother planned to kill her.
There should at least have been enough evidence such as blood on the whip and fingerprints to charge her mother and get relocated, hopefully somewhere nicer herself.
Can't wait for more, I hope they get together soon

Great story. Is it finished though? Causeits placed as complete but in the summary it mentioned some other characters that don't even show up in this chapter/one-shot.
