This is almost like a ballad; it is even the ghost of a ballad in composition. The most interesting thing about this poem- this long poem- is that there are certain striking, haunting lines that would not be so without the other lines to make them prominent. And the conclusion was the most emotionally fascinating of them all. That contradictory, "... my dear, I hated you" really stands out.
