JMEM1 2/13/11 . chapter 3Hello again! Long time no... review? Anyway, sorry that I haven't reviewed in a long time, busy-ness kind of took me over for several months. On to the review, though! I loved the opening, I had to smile when Devin threatened to hug Chance in order to get him to talk. Nice way to start a serious scene with a light tone, creates an interesting contrast. That being said, I also liked the conflict you've introduced between Chance and Devin, a very real issue that Chance would have. I'm glad they talked it out, that's what true friends do, and I hope that Chance will be able to adjust to all the changes he's going through. The only thing I might suggest in this part is in one line of dialogue: You said, "After everything we've been through...from when we first met, to you confronting me at the cemetery, to you forcing 'the wall down'." I'm going to suggest that "from when we first met" to "'the wall down'" isn't really needed. After Chance says "after everything we've been through" it sort of implies everything that happeend in their friendship. I would perhaps just skip to "You saved me from myself" right after "after everything we've been through." I hope that makes sense :P Also, I liked that although Chance was able to hold his own against the Runt Pack for a while, he was ultimately injured in the fight. Not because I dislike Chance and want to see him hurt, not at all, I just thought it was a nice change to see the main character falter in battle. It shows that he still has a lot to learn, lots of room for growth as a character, which is something important for every start of a novel, even if it is a sequel. So good job there! I sense a future romance between Trina and Chance, maybe I'm jumping the gun, but I'm looking forward to seeing how those two interact with each other. Should be interesting for sure :) Finally, Chance's thoughts at the end were very "human" (I know, he's not human, but you know what I mean :P). He's having doubts on how well he'll handle his responsibilities, and I'm wondering how well he'll be able to overcome his self-doubt. A nice introduction to inner conflict. Again, very sorry that I disappeared for the longest time! I'll definitely be on the lookout for more chapters! Ps- I noticed one typo. At the end you said "She TRIALED off" that's all, though! |
JMEM1 6/16/10 . chapter 2Aw Jimmy is adorable! Yay for toddlers making everything happier! Even if he did have an.. ahem.. accident. :P It's clear you've really planned out the whole society within Serity, the way you described the education system was fascinating. It was different, but at the same time it seems like a very efficient system. Great job on that, I can't wait to read more about this world, and what you've got in store for Chance and Devin. :) |
JMEM1 6/16/10 . chapter 1Hello again! I'm SO sorry that I didn't show up sooner to review! No excuses, though. I'm here to review :) Oh boy, three year old tuna. Sounds absolutely yummy... Ew. I can only imagine *shudder*. I really liked your description of Serity. I was really curious to know what it looked like, and I was not disappointed! I'm glad that Serity is much like home, except with half-wolf, half-human beings living in it, I like the combination of fantasy and reality. It's cool :) One thing I'm kind of wondering about what these creatures look like, specifically their hands. You mentioned they were paw-like. How paw-like are they? I'm just wondering because if they didn't have opposable thumbs, it would be kinda difficult to carry on with everyday activites :P. Just wondering. And ouch, those needles must have hurt, even if they weren't three feet long and several inches in diameter. I freaked out when I found out that I was minutes away from getting a blood-test, and it was a baby needle! I'm not even afraid of needles! I'd say Chance is very brave for putting up with that, and staying conscious throughout the whole thing! A very good start to your sequel, I'm looking forward to reading another great story in your series (is it a series? Or just these two books?). |
Kobra Kid 6/4/10 . chapter 2Aw, poor Chance! T.T. The ending made me want to squeeze him tightly and soothe him! :(. Anyways, great chapter! I liked how Chance freaked out about his new...body. :). A few descriptions of it would be nice though, but I'm sure you'll do that in the near future. :). All of the characters are developing nicely! Update soon! B. Cross |
Kobra Kid 5/25/10 . chapter 1Oh god, that animal emerging has to hurt like hell! I don't mind needles, but three feet long? That's insane! D:. For a first chapter, this was fairly good! Your descriptions weren't overwhelming and it was a good intro. :). Good job! -B. Cross |
