I like this very much! Good dialogue. I was picturing this like a movie. I was wondering what time period this was set in, then when I read it again, I imagined it was 1970's Russia, (the Cold War still going on, and orange carpet) Like your characterization of the narrator. A lot of people can identify with him, being stuck in a job they hate. Good writing!
