I really like the way you write the conversation and how much of it you have. I personally find it more interesting to read; with more conversation and not too much of exposition. But i also don't think there's Enough exposition, it's really fast paced. Unless that was the intention... Either way i like it, you should continue this! The title and summary already got me thinking further into the story!

This is really good! Now I'm really interested about what the animal was. One thing, is.. Lucas, a boy or a girl? You might have said and I missed it, but I couldn't tell.

Anyway, love the story, keep writing, and I think the animal was like, a wolf or something. Werewolf?
