I have a smiliar problem with my friend, but he has absolutely no idea that I like him (or at least I hope not), so i really know how you feel.

Writing this is definitely a good way to get those feelings out, I know it helped for me, and I encourage you to keep on going with this. Use it as an outlet for all you feelings and frustrations you may have with this person. If you felt even a little better after writing this, then I think you'll really benefit from writing more...
