I like this. The imagery in the first paragraph was brilliant. I also have a soft-spot for characters that follow their gut instincts simply because, so Erryn appealed to me right away. You do a good job of fleshing out her character in the beginning - smart, cautious, skeptical, observant. She seems to have her head on straight, though I expect in the future things are going to get a lot tougher for.
