I like the tone of this because it really enforces a sense of hopelessness upon the poem, something that attaches and matches really well with the questions that seem already answered and the last line.

I also like the questions because it nicely contrasts between the narrator's current life and the life that is the envied and the dwindling dream. Gives it a nice envious feel, an almost despairing envy; he has to look at this sort of life and it's too far away for him to reach.
