Excellent poem. I very seldom congratulate someone writing poems that rhyme (unless they're angry raps:) but you really nailed it. This really got me think that it would be great as a song. I had the "Extraordinary Machine" song by Fiona Apple in my head as I was reading this, and I even started singing parts of your song softly using the melody of the song. You should check it out to see what I mean. It's really kinda creepily beautiful. Anyway, great poem by itself, even if you never put it to music.
