I like this a lot so far! The storytelling is kind of reminiscent of classic novels, which lends this a kind of nostalgic charm. :D Very nice work! Can't wait to see more!

I like how human you are able to make Nicky. Rather than just have a perfect businessman (and I see too many perfect characters on this site), I think you've really been able to create a likeable character. Everyone goes through a time in their life where they feel like they're stuck in a rut. This makes Nicky quite relatable, I think.

I also like the clincher that you ended the chapter with. I think that you'll really be able to keep readers racing to the next chapter that way. Good job.
