I really liked the opening paragraph of this story. It sets the scene for something dark. I didn't instantly think of soldiers, but I did think of ragged figures walking through dark grounds. The description in that first paragraph really brings the story to life.

I did think there were some discrepancies in the piece, though. Like, in the opening paragraph it says that they are "driven on by fear and pain", but in the second to last paragraph it says that they no longer feel fear. That was confusing to me.

Overall a short, interesting story. Good work. :)

It's beautiful, and I have this idea that you based this off of ghost lore from a place? I don't know the name but it is believed that ghosts walk the battefield long after the war's been over.
