I am officially in love with this piece! Or maybe this is more like...addiction? Anyway, the main point is that you MUST CONTINUE! I will be heartbroken if this piece is not completed! You have astounding attention to detail, and this piece really feels like a publishably sci-fi post-apocalyptic novel. I think your charater development is pretty good-you've stayed mostly on the surface, with hints at things you might explain later (?) which is a major contributor to the over-all lost feeling the piece conveys-perfect for the scenario that Helen and the rest of the towns people find themselves in.
Mostly, though, I'm really impressed with the premise you've come up with! I've read and heard all kinds of aplocalyptic devices, but this is my first time encourntering a "war" as mysterious and complex as this one-I can't wait to read more and find out what's going on!
