At first, I thought the tree could have been a good allegory to God. But then the tree dies. So I thought "ok that's not what she had in mind." This poem reminds me a lot of The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Have you read it before? (liked the poem a lot)

Sad. Reminds me of the song "Mein Freund, der Baum". You probably don't know it.
