I'm just too lazy to login "I Dunno" 2002-08-14 . chapter 1
Ahh September Eleventh...a day of misery and yet, a day of awakenings. Back here on the Eastern Coast it was about nine 'o clock.
School had just started and I was hating it. I had just started middle school and knew no one in my classes. I was sitting in the back of the health trailer, trying not to fall asleep. My PE/Health teacher Ms. Butler was interrupted by Mrs. Monday, the head honcho principal at Robinson Secondary. The PA system wasn't working as well as it should have been and I couldn't understand what she was saying, but I knew it was bad by the grave tone in her voice.
I rushed to my next class to find the television on. It was replaying the scene of a plane embedded in one of the twin towers and the two towers collapsing, surrounded in dust. If that wasn't enough, they then showed footage of the Pentagon. It wasn't a pentagon after that plane...
Let me just say, living near D.C. and the Pentagon has it's advantages. You get good jobs, the Kennedy Center, museums, and a bunch of other things, but this...this wasn't good.
Several friends of mine had parents working at the Pentagon. They were hysterical with fear. I thanked God my father was a journalist, but then I realized that my dad was in the building RIGHT NEXT to the Pentagon. The Gannett building was very tall, it was a wonder the plane didn't hit IT instead. It was my turn to freak out.
All through classes I was hoping my dad wasn't taking a walk or commuting to work. Finally, school was out and I raced home. There, on the couch was my father.
I was so glad he was safe. Apparently he never got a chance to leave home. He has to work on California time and was ABOUT to leave for work. If he had left early...I shudder to think...he may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time...
The events of 9-11 have ruined lives. Many lives. But in a way, it caused us all to wake up; stop taking things for granted. Our families and friends, luxuries like electricity, indoor plumbing, education, etc. Always be thankful for what you have, because somebody else may not have it.

Loved your story. It was very heartwarming. I thought you would like to know what it was like from someone who lived close to the attacks, Vegas is pretty far.
Lotsa love,
~Leah~
