I stand at the edge of a dream
Beaten about by rain
Crying, though no one can hear me
Wanting to end my pain.

I stare into depths of nothing
Wishing that I could see
But knowing that there was nothing
My dreams would show to me.

Demons climb out of the dark depths
Screaming dark words of hate
I turn to run, but I'm rooted
I see that it's really too late.

The monster himself is standing
In the swirls of the gale
Dark hair and red eyes blazing
Skin like ivory, pale.

His hands end in bloody talons
To rend, to tear, to kill
Then they retract and he's harmless
As long as he stays still.

A cruel smile touches his lips
His hands reach out to me
He pulls me under his white skin
I'm a monstrosity.

I look out through eyes of fire
A gentle girl I see
I laugh and bend her to my will
Then cast her away to go free.

I drink in her pain, then leave her
Her screams ring in my ears
I take what I cannot return
And then sup on her fears.

There is nothing for me to do
But struggle against him
No matter how hard I'm trying
He finds a way to win.

Talons slide out of his fingers
I scream without a voice
Cast myself out of his control
Cast away like a toy.

I'm at the edge of a nightmare
Beaten about by rain
Trapped in a nightmare forever
No way to end my pain.

I see him when my eyes are closed
I run from him in sleep
His laughter ringing in my ears
The wounds we cause run deep.

My love no longer protects me
Love has no power here
I stare into gentle blue eyes
And watch them fill with tears.

I'm a monster for what I've done
And now I'll always be
I want to defeat the monster
But the real monster is me.
