Note: ...this really happened....quite an embarrassment...tennis memories...

Lost Books My Foot (October 2002)

The team had just returned yesterday from an away match

And I thought I had left my books on the bus without a touch.

How stupid of me!

A forgetful idiot.

I walked to the office of various people,

All empty or locked or dark with no one.

Along the way, I met a friend.

She worried with me for a moment.

Me, a total retard definitely.

I went to search some more quietly

Stressing the heck out of myself

And freaking the living daylights out.

My coach came seriously out,

Me, being a dummy, having no idea.

He asked me what was wrong,

But he pretty much knew.

We headed to his office

And he spent a while on the phone

Trying to sort out the confusion and clarify the company

On the phone to the much clueless operator.

Nervous, anxious, partially disoriented,

I stood by watching in sheer embarrassment.

At last, my coach got through.

Then he said that I could only hope.

We went to check out the locker room.

As he turned the key, I wondered.

It couldn’t possibly be in there.

There was no way.

I had peeked through the holes before

Because the door had been locked

And I had not seen any books

At all whatsoever in sight.

The door opened,

And we looked inside,

Sitting on the bench were two books;

The ones I had lost.

Wow, what a fanciful fool I was!

I didn’t remember bringing the books in.

My face grew red as I picked them up.

Extreme embarrassment and extreme apologies.

Terribly sorry about the trouble.

I’m a useless idiot,

One as forgetful as I.

I’m truly sorry…sorry…
