Enter the Realm of the Dragon
chapter 3

he turned to look at her as the girl spoke his name, rising to her feet. She was pretty, with yellow eyes that shone like stars and sleek, black hair cut roughly above her shoulders. She wore a spagetti-strapped, dark green dress that went to her mid thighs, a wide, burgundy sash around her middle with the excess hanging slightly to the side. The part of her chest between the straps was covered in a burgundy cloth and a green turtleneck hung loosely about her neck.

Lain, is something wrong? she reached his side.

Nothing, Reyah, he replied softly. The wind rustled his mane again, revealing the white flecks along his neck.

You're thinking about Princess Hiryuu again, aren't you?I she asked innocently.

the unicorn replied, making Reyah sigh. The howls of the wolves have traveled... she has again begun her season of murdering. The dragons slept through winter and she with them. Now, she has awakened, and the people are in danger.

Why don't they just leave... or stop cutting down the forest... or something like that? Reyah asked.

You forget that normal humans don't think like you. They are not smart enough. Humans are arrogant, convinced their own ways are the best. They see themselves as the dominant species, so the think that what they do will not matter even if it effects the animals. They refuse to give up even after the army they hired lost the battle. The refused to think of the lives lost but rather that the great god Ariana was dead, he whinnied gently to himself in what Reyah recognized as laughter. Slowly, he turned his head to her.

The wolves have begun begging that the Princess Ikkakujuu would please try to make peace between Princess Hiryuu and the humans... Ikkakujuu meant unicorn in the old tongue, so all but her brother referred to her as Princess Ikkakujuu. They're battles could bring the destruction of the last of the dragons. Without them, our magic would fail and...

...as generations went on, the unicorns magic would become less and less till they were merely normal horses. The giant wolves would become normal wolves, the winged panthers simply normal... every animal with the blessings of the gods would become nothing but normal animals, Reyah finished for him.

Yes, but another... he turned to her. Princess Hiryuu would become human, and as we became nothing, you would too. Reyah's eyes widened in fear.

Then we must... Lain nodded and bowed his head. Her jaw becoming hard in determination, Reyah reached up, grabbed his horn and mane and swung onto her brother's back. Then, together, they left their home.

A boy, seventeen winters old, looked up at the great town in front of him. There had been rumors of war here, so he had come to try and bring peace.

He did not ride upon a horse, though. This creature would seem to you a creature right out of a fairy tale book. At first glance, you might think it a giant, white wolf. However, at its ankles the fur grew out long, like feathers on a horse, and there were hooves coming out from under it. The legs were long and slender. The body and tail looked like a wolf, but the head was amazing; a blue horn grew out of its forehead like a unicorn's and two sapphires were on either side right below it, just above its emerald, shining eyes. Red, braided rope wound around its neck with a single, gray, squared stone hanging in the middle with a strange symbol on it.

She was a Jade, a legendary beast. Many a man would try to catch them, for though they were almost impossible to outrun, once you had one it became a friend for life and very much a part of you, for once it had an owner, a red rope with a stone on it appeared around their neck, by which they were connected to their human. This Jade, who's name was Raiyga, was connected to a the boy, Raiden. He had on red breeches, a white shirt and a red vest over it, a long, green cloak fluttering behind him. His dark brown hair was cut raggedly and from uneven bangs shone shaphire eyes.

Who are you? a gruff voice asked, making Raiden look up.

I have been sent from lands far to the north to try and stop the wars so many rumors have foretold, he replied.

Quit speakin' in riddles and go talk to the men! They're out in the forest, Raiden didn't have to touch Raiyga, for they were connected. Simply from his mind, she turned, sniffed the air, then started off in the direction from which the stench of human came.

There is a new human in the forest, Koro growled in his low voice, making Alenya raise her head, her lips curling in a snarl.

Apparently, he's fast and strong, Anarca's voice, not quite so deep, came from behind them. He is riding a Jade.

I've never seen one in these parts, Alenya cried, jumping to her feet.

He is not from here. His voice carries on the wind, Koro replied. Suddenly, he felt Alenya jump on his back.

Take me, she ordered, so Koro started off. To many, they would wonder why Koro hadn't just leaned forward and made Alenya slide off the front, but she had proved herself almost as strong as a dragon and her hands could work ways the dragons couldn't. They respected her, and she had already filled Ariana's place.

She's just set out, Lain looked around the cave, sniffing the air as Reyah ran up to him.

The scent is fresh... look! she suddenly pointed out to where you could a fiery red, icy blue, and black dragon making their way through the forest with a figure sitting on the blue one.

She is out to kill... Lain said. Reyah leapt on his back and he sped off at top pace before she could even tell him to.
