Left Alone With Nothing
by CrystalHorse72

“WAHH!!” Natalie shrieked, but it wasn't a frightened shout. She was hyper... again. It happened every day at lunch, and it was getting really annoying. I had to laugh when she ran into a tree, though. I had just become friend's with Natalie the year before when her best friend left her and she invited me over. Chelsea, who was laughing hysterically as usual, ran over to try and control our seriously hyper friend. Chelsea and I had both been the new girls in third grade, so we had been best friends. Fourth grade, we were placed in separate classes, and we drifted apart. Then, when my best friend left me behind last year, she invited me to be friends with her and Devin, so we were now best friends again in seventh grade.
Devin, however, we had ingored and drifted apart from. Devin had been really nice when I first met her, but suddenly, she had turned evil on us! Devin had the second longest hair in the grade, down to her bum, and a face that reminded me of a mouse, so our codename when we were dissing her was Mischika. Chelsea, who I swear reads every Comso Girl over three times, is always up-to-date on whats in and whats out. She had hair several inches above her shoulders, which was almost always pulled back in a bun, and brown eyes. Sam, our other friend at the table, had just come that year. She had short, blonde hair with a few brown streaks. She was really short, but she packed a punch. She played every combat sport known to man and took four different combat classes throughout the week... and not just once a week! She caught every guy in the grade's eye, but called them all ugly asses. Good ‘ol Sam!!
Kaleena had also come that year. Her family was from India, though she ahd been born in America. She had dark skin and black hair, which was pulled back in a high ponytail. She was trying to finish her lunch, but Natalie kept bouncing up and down and spilling her drink. All of us, except Natalie, had been raised here in Arizona. Natalie had been living in Tennessee with her aunt until her mom invited her to come live in Arizona in the first grade. Having grown up in a dangerous part of Tennessee called Summerville, where you not only carried but used a gun every time you went in he forest, was a bit more wild then the rest of us and tended to hurt people when she got hyper. She had dark brown hair in a high ponytail and was about the same height as Sam. She wasn't very pretty, and because of a horse accident a while ago she had to have eye surgery. Now, when she was looking at you, one eye stared you straight in the eye and the other slightly to the side. It wasn't noticable until you got to know her, but it creeped me out a bit.
We were all sitting outside, eating lunch. Actually, because of something we had signed up for for school, we had already had pizza and soda for lunch as a reward, but now we were having second lunch (so we were hungry... also, that coke did NOT help Natalie's energy). We have an indoor cafeteria, but also an outdoor area with about fifteen tables spread out over as much land as my house was (well... maybe not THAT much but...)
Natalie, Chelea, and I had all dumped our trays earlier (we dumped the extra food in the trash and gave it to the lunch peoples), so we decided to chase after Natalie when she ran around the side of the cafeteria, calling over our shoulders for Sam and Kaleena to catch up with us. Our school is an outdoor school, with outdoor walkways and classrooms in little islands everywhere. The cafeteria and burch hall were connected, so we ran all the way around both of them and turned right towards where the lunch area was. Across the sidewalk from Burch Hall was the music building and in front of that was an area of grass to fool around on. Down below that was basketball courts and a field for soccer or football.
As Kaleena and Sam ran out the front of Burch Hall to catch up with us, Chelsea managed to bring a very bouncy and squeely Natalie over next to her.
“Hey... you think they'd let us go up to P.E. early?? We have it next anyway...” she suggested.
“Let us go twenty minutes early??” I asked skeptically as Sam and Kaleen a joined us.
“LET'S GO ASK!!” Natalie cried, grabbing Chelsea's wrist and spinning her around backwards towards the teacher sitting at the picnic table, the Lunch Duty people. Sam and Kaleena exchanged horrified glances before groaning and running after us.
“Piper... wait up...” Sam huffed at me. Together, we walked over.
“...to go get my contacts, but I left them in my gym loccer and they take a bagillion hours to get in and PLEASE!!” Natalie begged Ms. Marks, my social studies teacher.
“I'll tell you what... I'll let you go five minutes before,” Ms. Marks told them before turning back to her conversation with the other teachers. Natalie turned to her right and ran over to the picnic table between the middle school loccers, only a short distance away. She started running around again, and again Chelsea tried to catch her and she started screaming.

“Guys... SHUT UP!!” Kelsey hissed at us. The picnic tables were supposed to be for people doing homework... they were in the middle school, not the playground, so we weren't really supposed to be in there.

“Excuse me!!” we all spun around to see our teacher Mrs. Crabtree, who was talked into buying an afro for a wig when she got grey hair, was glaring at us. “This is supposed to be QUIET... go outside!” she pointed us back towards the playground. I was tempted to add we already were outside, but I thought it best to hold my tongue. So, we trudged back outside the middle school area, went around the corner to the right and went around to the back of the rooms. We were now on the long stretch of grass with one of the middle school buildings on our right and the lower school building on our left. Natalie, being the hyper one she was, ran up to the first window.

“Whoa... it's the Latin room!!” Natalie said in mock-surprise and then turned beaming at us, as she always did when she was hyper.

“Hey... its been five minutes...” Chelsea glanced at her watch as Natalie pressed her face in the next room's window.

“Whoa... its Mrs. Crabtree's room...” suddenly, she turned and sprinted down the stretch of grass screaming like a loonie (wait sorry... she IS a loonie, but...) with Chelsea right next to her. Sam, Kaleena and I exchanged worried glances and then we sprinted after them.

“Where are you going?!” I asked when we reached the end of the grass. Ahead of us, the land went down steeply with rocks randomly stuck in the cement, a ramp leading down them to the side. If you kept going straight about thirty yards, there was a bridge that led across the wash and then up to the gym.

“We're going to P.E.,” Chelsea told me.

“You're gonna get in so much trouble...” no, we aren't perfection freaks, but our school is serious about trouble. Going up to P.E. early would land you in the middle school office, waiting for the head of middle school, Mr. Crabb, to tell you if you were suspended or put on lunch detention (you had to eat lunch with the teachers for a week and couldn't talk... just sit there with your food for 40 minutes... ARG).

“Okay, whatever... bye-dus,” Chelsea waved and then walked towards the rocks. Sighing, Sam, Kaleena and I turned around and walked back past the three music buildings and the office. We were just heading towards the absolutely-no-real-purpose room when we heard a voice behind us.

“Are you aware how out-of-bounds you are?!” we all spun around to see Mrs. Crabtree with her hands on her hips, glaring at us. She had just come out of the office. “And who were the other two with you?! They ran down here screaming and disrupted every class!! I have a student taking a test!! I know one was Natalie, because she pressed her face up in my window, but was the other one Chelsea or...” it dawned on me that she was testing us, as teachers frequently did. She knew it was Chelsea and Natlie, but she was trying out honesty.

“Well it was Natalie and... er... Chel...” just then, I saw the two of them come back around the corner, aparently having decided against going to the gym. They saw us and Mrs. Crabtree, turned around, hid behind the corner and had only their heads poking out, watching us. “...sea...” I laughed nervoulsy.

“Where are they now??” Mrs. Crabtree snapped.

“They're up at the gym...” what was I supposed to say?? I can't think up a lie that fast!!

“Well, they're WAY out of bounds...” Mrs. Crabtree growled, and Kaleena piped up.

“Yeah... they just went to get Natalie's contacts...” she tried to cover up.

“Ms. Marks said they could!!” Sam agreed.

“Well that still gave them no reason to scream!!” Mrs. Crabtree retorted. She then turned around to walk back into the office. “I'm not going to report you three, but those two...” she shook her head angrily and then walked into the office.

“They're gonna kills us,” I hung my head as we all turned around and trudged back towards the lunch area, then turned the corner to go to the picnic tables in the Middle School. We weren't surprised to see Natalie and Chelsea there, looking innocent.

“Chelsea...” with a heavy sigh, we all explained to them what had happened, mostly me talking. When I finished, Chelsea stared at me coldly.

“Piper, I'm on probation,” she growled (she and her friend Asta had gotten in a lot of trouble in fifth grade, and had been put on probation so that if they did one more thing wrong they were expelled).

“I thought you got off last year!!” I cried, and she shook her head darkly.

“No,” she said in a higher voice and turned her head as if to ignore me, but instead met Mrs. Crabtree's gaze. She jumped with a gasp, so Natalie turned around and also jumped in surprise, making her fall off the bench. I almost laughed, but Mrs. Crabtree's cold stare shut me up immediately.

“Ladies, I was informed you were going up to the gym,” she seethed, flickering her eyes to us and back.

“We were... but we decided to come back and wait...” Natalie tried to cover up.

“Deciding to go up or not, what have you, you had no right to run screaming past all those rooms. Now Mr. Crabb is down there looking for you, and I suggest you go find him!!” they exchanged worried glances, glared at us for a second, then trudged off to meet Mr. Crabb as Mrs. Crabtree went back in her classroom. I sighed heavily and plunked myself down on the bench, Sam and Kaleena following suit.

“If she gets expelled, she'll hate me forever... and I'll hate myself...” I sighed again and let my head fall on the table, which was a bad idea as I immediately cried out in pain and sat back up, holding my forehead.

“It's alright...” Sam started, but the bell rang. Immediately we stood up, but we waited for all the students to file out into the middle school before we ran towards the rocks and the gym. It was then I saw Chelsea and Natalie come up the rocks, so I raced as fast as I could and met them at the picnic table just as they reached me.

“What happened?! Are you...” Chelsea cut me off with a cold sneer.

“Thanks a lot!! We're going to the office!!” she and Natalie walked past me, Natalie growling. I watched them as Sam and Kaleena caught up with me before I sank down onto the bench of the picnic table and burried my face in my hands, Kaleena and Sam both laying comforting hands on my shoulders.

Well, there's part one... amazing how much I can right on a twenty minute period. Yes, that all happened EXACTLY like I told it, and it goes on. That happened yesterday and it continued into today, so I'll get part two up soon. When I'm finished, please help me and review with ideas on what I can do!!
