Chapter 3
CrystalHorse72

I woke up really late Thursday morning, so I basically threw on some clothes that turned out to be a red ‘Hearbreakers' shirt and blue jean shorts (yes, it is STILL hot here). Unfortunately, I couldn't do anything with my hair, which doesn't bother me except that when I sleep on it wet, it gets all bumpy at the bottem. The only thing that went wrong that morning was when mom told me I was going to need a sweatshirt, so I turned around to get mine and ran into a wall.

After I was dropped off at school, I walked in with my head up, not shadowed in my hair like the day before. When Sam ran up to me, looking worried, I just smiled at her. Her eyes didn't lose the worried expression when she tried to smile back and her eyes kept flicking to my upper arm.

“No, I didn't scratch myself again,” I told her. She breathed a huge sigh of relief as more people ran up to me to see how I was doing. Just over Kaleena's shoulder, though, I saw Natalie and Chelsea glare at me before the bell ran and they walked towards the Band Room for class meeting. Once their backs were turned to me, I flicked them in a way so that my friends could see but not any teachers. Then, we all laughed hysterically and walked towards the Band Room.

Thursday is a pretty good day. I was done and over with Math, Social Studies, and English in the first three periods. When break came (a fifteen minute period where you can buy food and talk with friends), I went down to Ms. D.'s room (her name is DeAnguara, but it's too long, so she is just Ms. D.) to tell her what was up. Ms. D. is one of those understanding teachers who is very up-to-date with what's going on those days. For instance, when I was trying to find out what was wrong with M-A back when I was friends with her, Ms. D. says:

“Well, how about like this...” grabs me by the shoulders, starts shaking me lightly, and says: “What the hell is wrong with you?!” She's good in these situations.

“Well, that's just stupid if they're mad at you for telling the truth to a treacher!! I'm scared of Mrs. Crabtree!!” we all laughed and I nodded in agreement. “Either way, though, you need to be sitting in class in fifteen seconds, so good-bye, my fan club!!” she shouted after us as we all sprinted out of the room, almost hitting the wall again.

Art passed quickly, as usual, because all we ever do is talk and tell funny stories while we work... Mrs. Bryant doesn't care at all. Then, I went to wait by the English room for Sam. Chelsea was standing there, but thankfully, the door of the English room opened so I went in without a word to her. Then, Sam and I walked up to the gym, Kaleena and Devin catching up to us. A downfall of being mad at Chelsea and Natalie: Devin follows me around everywhere. Well, and, of course, they aren't being my friends is another downfall but you know what I mean!!

We walked up and changed into our P.E. uniforms and then walked down to Lake Lacrosse. I did the warm-up lap, then announced so the world could here me that I was going to play defense. Unfortunately, Kaleena and Sam are on the other team, so they played forwards. I sood in the back with Devin (argh) and... well... sat there till it was time for subs to be in. Natalie and Chelsea, who had been sitting out, walked over. Chelsea gave me this strange glare, pointed at me and Devin with two fingers and then threw them over her shoulder swiftly.

“OUT!” she said before looking the other way as I walked passed her. I actually weaved back and forth over the field, trying to get rid of Devin, but she just chased after me. I'm gonna shoot her!!

We sat on the bleachers, laughing about stuff and glaring at Chelsea and Natalie. Of course, Ms. B. forgot to blow the whistle and we never got to play again.

It was kind of nice... as I walked back up, I was in the middle of Devin, Sam, Kaleena, M-A, and Emma (Michael-Anne's new best friend because Alysha switched schools). Chelsea and Natalie, who were walking really fast, walked right by us.

“Look, look,” Devin said, tapping me and we all turned our heads. “This is how they're walking...” she did sort of a Mexican Hat Dance sort of step and we all cracked up.

“Look... us laughing without them is really pissing them off!!” Sam whispered with a laugh, pointing as they walked faster. We all cracked up, which made them sprint up to the locker room. That just made us laugh harder.

I changed out quickly and walked out of the locker room with my five friends only to have my arm grabbed and be pulled to the side to meet Chelsea dead in the eye.

“We need to talk,” she growled and I nodded for the others to go on. There is constuction up by the gym and a fence with a covering over it going around it. I knew that they had walked around the corner of the fence and were waiting there for me.

“Okay...??” I asked them.

“Piper, you have lost our friendship,” Natalie's words cut through me like a knife. I stood there, but I didn't drop my jaw. I clenched it hard instead. It felt like there were bags under my eyes that you could just push and water would start spurting out.

“Yeah, and you need to figure out how to gain it back,” Chelsea told me. “You keep avoiding us... and you know, when you walked up to me, I was thinking ‘Oh, good... maybe she's going to apologize or something...' but no! You just walk in to get Sam!! You know what, that really pisses me off!!”

“You guys said you needed time to cool off...” Chelsea cut me off.

“TWO DAYS?!?!” I wanted to point out that it hadn't even been 24 hours, but I clamped my jaw even harder.

“Look, you know what, you have been avoiding me if anything!! I'm not going to try and talk to you when you aren't making any effort at all!! You keep glaring at me and... YOU KNOW WHAT?!?! I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TELL MRS. CRABTREE!!!!” I shouted, managing to make my almost-in-tears state look like serious anger.

“Piper, that's not even what we're mad about!! We're mad that you can't even be bothered to talk to us!!! It seems like you don't even want to be friends anymore... LIKE YOU DON'T EVEN CARE!!!!!” Natalie screamed at me.

“Oh please... I said I was sorry and you have been doing nothing but avoiding ME...” Natalie stood back, shook her head, threw her arms over her head in an exasperated fashion and then stomped off. Chelsea threw me a cold stare and then followed Natalie. It was then I broke down.

I ran around the corner only to be stopped by Devin, Sam, and Kaleena, asking me what happened.

“Oh sure, Piper, just go and tell those three!!!” Chelsea shouted.

“SHUT UP!!!!!!” I shouted at the top of my lungs in the most angry voice I could manage, and it actually made the three guys walking me by me jump three feet in the air and Daniel fall flat on his face.

Then, I started laughing hysterically. I've heard this song on the radio and all I know is one part of the main chorus, “Bitch Bitch Bitch!!” So I started singing that as Devin walked with me and Sam and Kaleena ran ahead for some reason or another.

I was a wreck. I walked into a tree, tripped over a rock but caught my balance, then fell down because I felt like it on the ramp and lay there, laughing hysterically till Devin pulled me to my feet and dragged me up the rocks.

Sam and Kaleena ran up to me.

“I was gonna STRANGLE HER!!!” Sam announced. “But we have Chorus second.” We have two lunch periods, so our music teachers will let us have lunch first and music second or the other way around.

“Like I could eat without puking anyway,” I laughed and they all gave me worried glances.

We got our food... except me, that is... and walked outside. Every table was almost full of people in different grades and Chelsea was sitting at one with Tori, Natalie (not the Natalie I'm in a fight with), and Kelsey (aparently, Natalie had strings first). I cursed under my breath and then we all went over to the aphid table (farthest table from the cafeteria under two trees and the table sometimes has litte green bugs called aphids on it). Eventually, we managed to scare away the two sixth graders that were there and had the table to ourselves. We talked for awhile and then left so Sam and Kaleena could take the Engish quiz retake (we all failed the first one, but I retook mine in the first 30 seconds of break). While they went in, I grabbed my notebook and sat down.

‘Dear Chelsea,

I'm sorry, but I wish you were too,' Sam and Kaleena walked out, groaning that they had to take it after school now. Then, they saw my letter.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to write an ‘I'm sorry' letter when two people are telling you to piss them off in the letter?? I finished it and then started one to Natalie, but it ended:

‘I'd write more, but the bell just rang.'

I gave them both the notes and then walked into chorus. I saved Chelsea a seat, but she ignored it. So instead, I moved to sit next to Emma so I could mouth things across the room to Sam.

Science... we got to study more minerals... then Latin. I sat in my normal seat in the top corner of the room with Chelsea in the row next to me one desk back and Sam right next to me. I talked to Chelsea and she to me. I felt like I had my friend back.

~*~

I sat at my desk, reading my friend's fics on when my phone rang. I answered

“Heyo,” but the voice on the other end wasn't nearly as cheerful.

“Piper, I can't believe you,” it was Natalie. “You know... you don't seem like you even want to be our friend!! I was hoping you would call and apologize or something, because I promised Chelsea I wasn't going to take the first step, but I did!! I broke my promise because you're too stupid to call!!”

What the hell was her problem?? I never call people... she should know that by now!! I told her that.
“Yeah, but... still!!”

“I'm sorry.”

“Do you even know what you're sorry for?!?!” I nodded, then hit myself on the forehead when I realized she couldn't see me nodding.

“Yes,” I said.

“What??”

“That I was... avoiding you and I didn't really do anything about the fight and... well... and I'm a shi...” she cut my off.

“You know what?!” she started, and I quickly cut in.

“No,” I smiled to myself.

“SHUT UP PIPER!!!!” she was REALLY angry, but for some reason, I was almost laughing. “You know what... I'll talk to you tomorrow... face to face with Chelsea!!” and then, she hung up on me. I started laughing crazily... hysterically... I couldn't breathe and tears were coming to my eyes I was laughing so hard. I rolled off the bed and just kept laughing, rolling around on the floor.
