Dangerous Love

CHAPTER ONE

            "Shane? You ready yet?" Alexia yelled up the apartment's hallway stairs to her little brother.

            "Almost! I'm just trying to tie my shoes," Shane said in a strained voice. Alexia immediately softened. She loved her little brother more than anything in the world. Especially since their parents were killed.

            She, at age 21, took on the role of being his guardian.

            "Here, sweetheart, I'll help you with that," Alexia climbed the stairs to the step he was sitting on, struggling to tie his shoe.

            "Hey, thanks Ally," Shane ran the rest of the way down the stirs. Alexia stayed a distance behind and watched her little brother.

            Wow, she thought, we hardly look related. He has pale blond hair, and I have jet black hair. The only same thing about us is our bright green eyes. He looks exactly like daddy, as I do mother.

            "Are you ready for your first day of first grade?" Alexia hugged Shane to her as they walked through the streets of New York City to the public bus stop.

            "Not really," Shane said bluntly.

            Alexia laughed, "Why not?"

            "Ally, I'm not deaf. I hear you swearing about your professor. What'd you call him? A jack-"

            "Whoa, let's stop right there. Don't ever repeat anything that I say when I have books in my presence, okay?" Alexia held out her hand.

            "Deal," Shane smiled, "is James coming over tonight?"

            "I'm not sure. Do you want him to?" Alexia already knew the answer to that question. She knows that Shane loves James almost as much as he loves Alexia.

            "Yeah! And let's watch Jaws 2 this time!" Shane plopped down on the bus stop bench.

            "No honey, last time we watched Jaws you had to stay in my room all night," Alexia shook her head and sat down next to Shane.

            "Please?!? I promise I won't this time! Please?" Shane started to beg and started to tug on her arm.

            Alexia laughed, "Maybe. Now come on, the bus is here." Alexia took Shane's hand and they stepped onto the bus together.
