First impressions are a bitch, aren’t they?

It’s the one most people remember, yet it’s almost always wrong

The most accurate is usually the second or the third impression, when everybody is more relaxed

I speak from experience

Because of first impressions, I’m always viewed as the goof-off, the incurable screw-up, the girl who couldn’t be serious to save her life

But these people making these assumptions don’t know how incredibly wrong they are

I can be very serious when I need to be

When my best friend came to me thinking that she was pregnant, I was very serious while helping her figure out what to do

When that same friend came to me threatening suicide, I was usually one of the only ones who could talk her out of it

And I am nothing BUT serious when I’m depressed

I was nothing BUT serious the night I took a razor blade to my wrists

I was nothing BUT serious whenever I thought about doing it again

The numerous scars on my wrists are proof that I can be serious

But no one will ever see that

The jokes about never asking me about something serious will continue

The blank stares that come when I act serious will forever stay

For the rest of my life, I will always be…
