Goddess Watching

[1] Nori Valentine
Nori looked to Simon, her gaze was unwavering. "What did you just ask me?" She questioned her violet eyes flashing brightly drinking in his dark and shimmering skin. His blue eyes held milky blue skies swirling with gray haze. A gaze that made her heart jump for years.
"Nori," He stated moving a hand through his black hair. Her cheeks were high and blushed a pale orchid color against her beautiful skin. Sapphire and emerald lights were hitting her red hair from the café. The crones of a star struck wannabe filled the air with mellow sounds of the blues. "You know the songs."
"So what are you trying to say Simon?" She questioned wanting him to just say it. Simon was filled with pride and for him to ask anyone for help, well, one could safely assume that that person was important. She stirred her water with the cute little umbrella that had come with it and watched him carefully.
"You know what I’m asking Nori," Simon sighed sitting back in his seat and taking a sip of his beer. His broad shoulders looked wonderful in the green shirt that he had chosen to wear. His lanky legs were stretched underneath her chair and he looked around at all the people clothed in darkness.
"Say it Simon," Nori stated crossing her long legs. To her they had always reminded her of chicken legs. They were far too skinny and pasty.
"Come on Nor," He groaned running a hand through his tendrils of onyx and midnight black.
"Simon," Nori replied, drawing his name out to make it sound whiny. She looked to her nails. She never could get them to grow, but she always painted them neon green. Her violet eyes looked back up to Simon’s face. Her bright blue eye shadow and silver sparkles framing her eyes caught the light making it look as if a goddess was looking back at him. He drew in a breath and continued to look at her.
That stare lasted about ten minutes. Neither of them would say anything. They were both too stubborn, clashing two headstrong people when finally Simon’s ego folded just this once. "Jessica is sick. There’s no way she can sing without sounding like the Mickey Mouse Club," Simon explained.
Nori’s violet eyes didn’t let anything show but inside she was feeling happy and a little giddy. Simon had been her best friend for a long time and through those years she had sucked up her pride and watched him date girls that weren’t good enough for him. She watched, as they would kiss him passionately in front of her, not realizing that her heart was breaking, and probably not caring either way. Jessica was his now girlfriend and lead singer of their band. She was everything that Nori wasn’t. She was tall, dark, exotic, and talented, but Nori wasn’t jealous.
Ok. Maybe a little bit.
"So Simon, you’re giving me this big song and dance, but I’m still not getting it. Let me have the pleasure of hearing you ask me for a favor," She told him a smile playing on her scarlet lips, the same hue as her hair.
Simon gave her that look. That look that showed that he was a little bit unhappy with her, but a little amused at the same time. Nori knew this because she had the same look and tended to flash it at him. "I’m asking you to sing the lead tonight. This is a big gig and we need the money. We’ll cut you in on whatever percentage you want, but we’ve got to be onstage in oh," He looked at his watch, "Five minutes."
"Wonderful, you certainly know how to put a girl on the spot," Nori muttered, her violet eyes looking to the bright orange stage decorated in wild purple stripes.
"A girl that I know can pull this off. I wouldn’t have asked anyone else," Simon admitted, his eyes drinking Nori in, making her drown on his soft words, but she knew that what he was saying was true. The sandbag would have canceled and not budged one inch unless he was absolutely confident that they would rock the house.
"And what makes you so sure that I can pull this off?" Nori asked skeptically moving a piece of red hair from her eyes.
"I don’t," Simon stated holding out a hand for her, "But I have faith."
Nori gritted her teeth. Damn him. Damn him all the hell. Tonight was suppose to be a night for cocktails and to drown in the sorrow of another blind date massacre. "You owe me," Nori stated taking his hand and feeling an electric shock running up her spine. "You owe me big time."
