A/N: Blah, another ‘based on a real event’ short story. Details changed because I can’t remember how it really happened exactly. Or maybe to protect the victims/characters… Heh.
First Crush
I sit at the desk with my nametag, and wait for my new geography teacher to give the standard ‘first day of school’ speech. She’s Old, not as old as my grandma, but definitely older than Mom. On the chalkboard behind, is ‘Mrs. Brown’, in neat cursive handwriting. She looks a little boring, and I’m pretty sure that she’ll be a tough grader, too. Wonderful. Hopefully my next classes will be more interesting.
It’s my second year at ICS, so I look around at the kids sitting near me, hoping to see friends. I know her… him… eww, that snob! I hope I don’t have to pair up with her… So far it seems like I know mostly everybody here. Then, I hear a knock at the door, and see a boy standing there with a small piece of paper in his hand. “Miss… Brown?” he says hesitantly. “Mrs. Brown.” She corrects him. “Yes, what is it?” Silently, he hands her the paper, and waits. “Shawn (something).” Mrs. Brown reads out loud. “Very well. Sit down over there, between Morren and Nyallsen. Here’s the class syllabus, and turn to the front page.” She says some more, but I don’t notice.
Shawn… He looks a little shy. He has a good face, and I bet a good smile, too. His hair is spiky brown, and it looks like it would be soft if I touched it- it’s kind of messy, which fits with his baggy jeans and black t-shirt. He’s kind of cute. Not handsome, like Derek, in my last year, but nice-looking…
I blink and look away from him quickly, my face turning red. What am I thinking? I probably look like an idiot, staring at the poor guy. My head resolutely facing the chalkboard and Mrs. Brown, I try to concentrate on her lecture about late homework. For some reason, though, my thoughts keep turning back to the new boy, one seat to my right and one seat forward…
By the end of the day, I have a big, hopeless, and completely huge crush on one Shawn Norman. Not my first, but definitely the strongest ever. Added to the normal stress of school is the constant problem of having to talk to him without turning red and babbling embarrassing nonsense. Judging from the past few hours, I decide that this may turn out to be a very long school year indeed…
