The Watcher

by Luinthoron

I am a watcher. Yes, a watcher. I watch, watch over people.

There are only few of us. We live as humans amongst other humans, but we aren't. We are more, far more than that, and yet also less. We are different, but nobody knows how much.

We stay away from others and they stay away from us. We don't even know each other.

We don't look down at people, nor do we look up to them.

We feel what you feel - we're happy when you're happy, sad when you're sad, and we feel like we'd die when you cry. And still, you'll never know it. We feel your love, your pain. Yet we feel it much stronger. This is our strength and our greatest weakness. Some of us have committed suicide after witnessing great tragedies. They weren't involved, but felt much more of it than everyone else together.

We watch without interfering. Even when we want to interfere, we can't. It feels like we're petrified. All of our strength leaves us, and all we can do is let it happen and stand aside. And watch.

We are not a different species. Not completely, at least. Our parents are human, as are our brothers and sisters. They're normal people like you, never noticing, how great the difference between us really is.

We can fall in love, but we never show it. Again, we would, but just can't. It's sad, but we stay alone. And might die from our breaking heart.

If you see a lonely person just standing by the wall and watching the others, never participating in whatever they do, he might be a watcher.

A watcher, this is what I am. I watch without interfering. And you'll never know what I am and what I feel...

...for you...
