The sun signals her farewells

As she walks her final mile.

She turns, then gives the world

One last good-bye smile.

The earth softens in response

And the sky turns violet-blue.

The entire world is glowing together

In a single, golden hue.

Suddenly time freezes,

Especially for me.

No one can speak – no one can move

All you can do is be.

But then, the people hurry on,

Eager to avoid the sun’s dark side.

So oblivious to their own shadows,

Matching their every stride.

The moment passes – the sun goes down

Forgotten by all except for me.

The memory of a dream

That I can eventually bring to be.

But I am older and wiser now,

With too many places to go.

And what was in that faded sunset?

That, I no longer know.
