When all hope is lost
Chapter I
Thirteen year old Kai slept soundly unknowing about the dangers that were awaiting him with the arrival of dawn. The day had been his birthday and he was very excited about the party on the following day. He didn't know about the candle that had been left burning. He didn't know that his little sister was having another nightmare that in mere hours would cause her to wake up and run screaming into their parent's bedroom. Nor did he know that this would cause a chain of events that would result in him losing his home, his parents, even Lauren. And everyone knew that his ten year old sister meat more than anything to him. But these things can't be avoided. And who would know that a thirteen year old would have enough power to save the one most important to him? Well it doesn’t really matter anyway. For not even the most powerful soul on earth can change the course of fate. And Kai Kohimah learned this lesson all too soon.

"MOMMY!" Ten-year-old Lauren Kohimah cried as she ran threw the halls of the big house on her way to her parent's room. "MOMMY! MOMMY I HAD ANOTHER BAD DREAM!"
But even the smallest incident can change a person's life forever. It can even end it, and as Lauren ran through the hall her hand brushed against a lit candle knocking it onto the wooden floor. Then it happened. The spirits came to her. Causing her to lose all consciousness of reality.
"Help us Lauren. Please help us." They said.
"Help you with what? What is it that you're asking me?" Lauren asked desperately.
"Help us. Free us. Help us Lauren."
"I gotta get Kai." She whispered. Then she screamed, "KAI! KAI HELP ME! HELP ME KAI!"
But mortal ears cannot hear the voice of a little girl's spirit. However somehow Kai Kohimah knew to come down to the hall that night.

"Lauren." He whispered. "She needs me."
"KAI!" Lauren's voice sounded clearly through the night air.
Kai scrambled out of bed and ran downstairs only to find his beloved sister engulfed in flames.
"LAUREN!" he screamed.
He ran over and grabbed the little girl's wrist pulling her away from the flames. Or at least he tried.
"What's going on?" he muttered.
He turned to find that someone was holding his little sister back.
"Lauren what's happing?"
Then she heard the spirits again.
"Help us Lauren. Save us. Free us."
"Their here." She whispered light breezes beginning to flow around her. But no windows were open.
"Who's here?" Kai asked. He was beginning to get frightened. "Who's here?"
"The spirits. Their here Kai! Their here!"
"Come with us Lauren. Help us save us free us."
"They want me."
"NO!"
The flames began to rise despite the winds surrounding her.
"HELP THEM KAI! HELP THEM!" she screeched. Her Cerulean eyes were becoming a dark cold black.
"The only person I'm gonna help is you." He cried pulling desperately at her wrist.
"If you want to help me, help me help them!" she commanded.
Kai pulled vainly at her wrist once more before dark energies flung him against the door. In his last moments of consciousness he saw his little sister be swallowed up by the flames, the smoke alarm going off then all went black.
