Beltane Fires
By: Neko-chan
I'm all alone
in my backyard.
The night is silent
and waiting with bated breath.
I close my eyes.
I lift my arms.
Breathing in the night air.
It is Beltane tonight.
I have no coven to celebrate this night with.
I have no fellow Wiccans to celebrate this night with.
It does not matter.
The fires are lit.
The sounds of music
and piping
and drums and harps
fill the air.
I dance.
I dance.
I dance.
I dance.
'Round and 'round
the bonfire I dance.
Faster, faster...
dizzy with speed.
I do not dance alone.
Elves join me.
Faeries join me.
Gods and Goddesses join me.
I am not alone.
I was never alone.
I will never _be_ alone.
...they are with me.
Watch as the full moon
waxes round.
Circling high above
like a distant eye.
Odin's eye,
lost for wisdom.
Battles lost and battles won---
all for Eire.
I am dancing this night,
my feet barely touch the ground.
Pixies fly around me,
lighting the night with their glow.
I pause.
I am out of breath.
I blink,
and I look back towards the house.
And I smile.
. . . . . . . . . .
...I'm watching her out my window.
She's dancing, celebrating.
Another time for rebirth.
Another chance for new life...
...or so she tells me.
She's glowing now.
How can that be?
Shapes and shadows
are moving to and fro...
She's not alone.
Lights sparkle.
Ears curl into a point.
Bodies hum
with the might of their power.
She's dancing with...Others.
And now she's waving for me.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I take a breath
and the night air refreshes me.
I beckon,
but she does not come.
And I dance once more.
'Roud and 'round and 'round
the Beltane Fires.
Dancing the Dance of Life.
