As Ashley began to wake up, she took in her surroundings. “Shit!” She whispered. “You’re awake.” Ashley looked up to find Nate smoking a cigarette. “I am so sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep. You must think I’m a real asshole. God!” Ashley apologized. “Kittie, calm down. It’s all right. Kittie...I know.” Nate spoke. Ashley looked down at her feet and asked, “You know what?” “I know you ran away. I’ve known since I talked to you outside of that bar. You’re welcome to stay here.” Nate replied.
“Why?” Ashley asked slowly. Panic was slowly overtaking her. “Look, I’m not looking for anything in return. I know what it’s like not to have anybody. I...” Nate trailed off as he looked out the window. “You what?” Ashley asked quietly. Nate let out a shaky breath as he ran his fingers through his hair. “I had an abusive father, so I ran away at fifteen. I don’t like to think about it.” He continued. “Sorry.” Ashley responded, her eyes filled with sadness. Compared to him, her reason for running away looked pathetic. “It’s alright. It was my fault for starting the sentence in the first place.” Nate spoke as he put out his cigarette.
“Well, why you mull over my proposition, what do you say we go get some breakfast?” Nate asked, lighting another cigarette. “Okay, but can I use your bathroom first?” Ashley replied. “Sure, its right down the hall.” Nate responded, pointing out the way. “Thanks.” Ashley spoke as she walked down the hall.
“Ready to go?” Nate asked after she returned ten minutes later. “Uh-huh.” Ashley replied.
