The smell of autumn
fills the air,
aroma rising from fallen leaves.
The sun sets sooner
making the world dark,
but first coloring the western sky.
The first frost
in the morning light,
sparkles on the blades of grass.
The brittle twigs crack
under the weight of the wind,
and litter the ground when they fall.
The bears eat their fill
and crawl to their dens,
not to come out until spring.
The geese passing o'er
and trumpeting their flight
continue their way to the south.
