"It can't be that cold," she thought aloud, before she could stop herself. Her voice echoed a little bit, as if really bouncing off of castle walls. The mist danced around her, seeming to be alive. Her heart was racing and she was amazed the sound did not echo for being so loud. She hugged her elbows, trying to protect herself from the mist for it truly seemed to be a living creature now. It was leading her to some area and she couldn't stop her legs from moving, she just let it guide her around. It was cool and gentle against her legs.
Something wet ran over her leg and she covered her mouth before a shriek of disgust could escape her lips. She stumbled uneasily through the mist now, no longer caring where it took as long as there was nothing along the lines of whatever had touched her there. She stopped walking for a moment as the vapor stopped directing her to some unknown destination. The mist was slowly forming into something; she couldn't exactly make out what. It was possibly human. The most she could tell was that it was pretty muscular; when it was done taking form it was hidden within the shadows. She couldn't make out any of his features.
"?" she choked out, her voice had stopped echoing and seemed to just float in the air before disappearing entirely. She realized how chapped her lips were and she felt her hand slowly move to them. Her fingers touched lightly and a painful tingle ran across her mouth; her lips where always so sensitive when they were chapped.
"I knew you'd let me guide you here," sighed a voice. She could barely hear it because it did the same thing hers had done. It wafted through air for a moment, before slowly joining the shadows.
"Excuse me?" she asked, trying to sound polite. Why did she get the feeling she knew the person? It chuckled.
"I know you trust me," it breathed. His voice slipped away once more, and the only words she had caught were 'trust me'. She shivered.
" you know where we are? Would you come out of the shadows so I could see you?" she inquired. Her words sounded as if she had breathed them to this stranger instead of asked them something. The person chuckled again. They took a step from the shadows but suddenly she felt a sense of danger. She put her hands up.
"Wait!" she snapped, her voice echoing again. "Stay where you are," she frowned. "And answer my first question." The stranger gave a bow but she still could not see their face.
"As you wish," they breathed softly to her. The words floated towards her as if in a soft breeze. Ashly felt quite baffled from the remark. Hadn't she heard this kind of voice before? She couldn't place what it sounded like exactly. The smoothness reminded her of velvet brushing against her body after a freezing dip in lake water during the middle of winter. The creamy feeling that fell over her body was so familiar, but she couldn't place it! It was very frustrating; and the way the stranger talked to her, she knew she had heard that voice somewhere before!
"Do you know where we are?" she repeated.
"My world," was her reply. She shook her head now feeling very flustered.
"What are you talking about," came from her mouth before she could stop herself. The person ignored her question and began to walk from the shadows again and she caught a glimpse of their eyes: a bright silver color. She put her hands up rapidly taking a step away from them once more. For some reason or another they frightened her.
"Don't move," she said sternly. The person stepped back to the shadows, but their silver eyes were glowing now. A horrible chill raced up Ashly's spine.
"What do you want?" they breathed to her again. A mist came from them as if it were cold again. She gazed at it in genteel fascination as she suddenly realized it black like the shadows, while hers had been chilly white. She took another step away from them.
"Who are you?" she hesitated before asking that question, not sure if she wanted to know the answer.
"Let me come to you and you will see," they smiled. She shook her head.
"Do I know you?"
"Almost every day of your life." Ashly was trying to put this together. It felt so much like she Twenty Questions.
Who did they remind her of? Why were they so familiar? She felt she knew them, but for her life she could not place them. She gazed up again at the silver eyes. Comprehension smacked her right in the face and she bolted suddenly racing from the figure. When she took ten steps to try and escape him he somehow caught her with only three graceful strides. He grabbed the top of her arm and she cried out pleas for someone's help. Of course no one came to her aid.
"Just give into me already!" sneered a tall night-black haired boy. His tresses were a little past shoulder length and held in a ponytail that made him look a lot like a warrior from Japan. They were straight and fell along his back elegantly. His smooth muscled arms held Ashly to him closely. His horrifying silver eyes cut into her as he forced her to look up at him. She looked at him in horror, tears suddenly pouring from her eyes. She struggled to pull loose but his grip was inhumanly strong. She sobbed another plea for help. "You know you can't resist, you know you like this." He pulled her closer and forced his lips against hers. His warm mouth was demanding and Ashly was forced to react before she could stop herself. She closed her eyes tightly but felt suddenly at ease. Her lips were tingling agonizingly from being chapped. But it was a good tingle that she hated. He let the kiss go gently and traced her lips with his tongue, ridding them from being chapped at all. Once more he came down and gave her a harder kiss. He opened his mouth pouring warmth into hers. His breath was warm and cold all at the same time. Of course, that was easy for him to do, being what he was, who he was. Remembrance tore at her like a dagger. Her muscles tensed again.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!" she sobbed trying to pull away. The guy held her even more powerfully. He smiled a whimsical smile that sent painful shivers up her spine.
"You know you can't stop this Ashlyina, you've tried and you've tried. But give into me now. You will not be able to stop me, so let me love you," his voice was hypnotic. His words slurred together like he were singing to her and his voice sounded like silk running against her skin in the winter. Why hadn't she noticed his voice earlier? Why hadn't she noticed the smooth way he talked to her? Ashly tried to pull away harder, she wished she could faint; he couldn't do anything to her if she didn't allow him to. Sadly, though, he was able to press his mouth to hers, caress her body. But as for sex she was still safe, as for that was a different story.
She looked up sadly at him, hoping that would touch him and make him let her go. She should have known better. He smiled his untrustworthy smile at her again.
"You're not getting what you want from Will, so let me give it to you, give me the permission to give you want you've been wanting," he whispered to her. His lips were brushing against hers and his cool body pressed against hers was making her feel weaker and more and more vulnerable to let him have his fun. He was holding her chin and urging her softly to kiss him. She began to sob harder, her breaths coming in gasps.
"Please leave me alone," she wept.
"Please leave you alone?" he asked her, raising his one brow devilishly and pulling back some. He began to run his hands down her body. "You ought to let me have you Ashlyina, I could end up hurting some one out of pure pain of your rejection." He grinned evilly. "And I don't take well to rejection." Ashly found strength and pulled herself away harshly.
"Bastard!" she screamed. His eyes flashed with a concealed anger.
"You can't stop me Ashlyina, I will have you, and you will be mine eternally. You are belonging to me more each day," he whispered icily and was gone.
Ashly woke up with a start. She stifled a horrid scream for her parents remembering that they were away on a business trip and she was alone for another few weeks. Out of all the times for them to be away her mom had to go to Washington!
She looked around in her dark room. Her room should have been black and empty but a darker something stood in it. It leaned over her, a person maybe. She couldn't see anything else; it just stood there, looking down at her. She slowly tilted forward; it leaned further away just as slowly as she sat up, but it still seemed afraid to even touch her. Her breathing was hard and panic was rising in her for her to scream again. She carefully got out of bed and walked over to her door, the figure stood there, watching her. Her hand reached out for the switch and flicked it on. Light flooded into her room, blinding her for a second. She looked around; nothing blacker than the night was there. Her scarlet red and purple room stood before her. (She loved being in a dark room; she got a lot of peace in it.) A little bit of a light blue color could be seen in the early morning light. She sighed as a hint of relief flooded over her body. She gazed around her little room trembling.
That kind of dream had been coming to her for a week now. She couldn't get it out of her head, even her boyfriend, Will, was afraid something was wrong with her. Oh Will, the thought of him brought her so much comfort. He was handsome with his short bleached hair and perfect complexion, dark blue eyes like the bottom of an ocean. He was soccer star, football champion, and master basketball player titleholder. Not to mention the fact he was the fastest runner in the whole county. Ashly was lucky to have him. He loved her very dearly, but even though he didn't really show it, she knew he did. Will was shy, he got embarrassed when Ashly kissed him on the cheek in public but he did love her. He had pushed her away one time, humiliating her in the open, when she had kissed him. She had felt awful and Will had stuttered to try and explain why but wasn't able to find the words. So she found her own way home and had sobbed all night. Her parents hadn't been home again and she'd been alone to mull over it. She'd sobbed and wept and gotten herself so sick that she'd thrown up from crying too much. Around midnight she'd finally fallen asleep, too weak to cry anymore and too weak to care what happened next. That's when the dreams had actually started coming to her. As a child she could've seen them try and hint their way into her slumber, but besides those few times she had never really had these dreams before, until that one night, that is.
She was frightened at first; this mystery guy had been so handsome it had to have been a sin. He'd talked to her so sweetly she'd been very frightened indeed, never before had a boy spoken to her like he did. Will had never said the sweet things he'd said to her. Of course she was frightened. But the dreams had comforted her a little. She had allowed this mystery guy to kiss her lips and run his fingers through her hair and hold her; she had felt better when he did it. They'd sat in a low ankle deep mist and he'd keep his arms around her, kissing her neck gently. He'd said words of praise to her and tell her how beautiful she was and how much he wanted her. He'd tried to have sex with her but she told him she'd prefer not to. Still he'd been very gentle to her, he'd been so sweet that it should have been a crime for her to even be around him.
But Will had apologized in his own special way a day later. She had letters from him saying so.
Dear my beloved Ashly,
Sup? I know I know, bad way to start a letter, maybe
That's too mushy a way to begin it, or maybe to slang
Filled, but.... I wanted you to know I'm sorry about
Not returning your kiss earlier that day. I just get,
Embarrassed by it. I don't know why. I'm very sorry.
But I do love you Ashly, more than anything.
Yours, Willson
That's also how Ashly knew he meant everything he said. Will was embarrassed by his first name, Willson, and he never told it to anyone. He just made people call him Will. And by him giving her his real name was like a secret bond sealing the letter. Ashly's own first name was more embarrassing than his though. Ashlyina. She despised it when people called her by her real name and only allowed those of great importance to do so, like her teachers for example.
She had told the dream guy what had happened with her and Will in her next dream with him, hoping that the guy would be happy for her. He wasn't. He had tried to put her down with it, telling her he wouldn't last. She had dream argued with him and then after that letter the dreams had seemed fiercer, angrier, more 'pissed off', then on. She even remembered to this day of that shadow following her around, she thought it was natural or just her imagination. But something told her that shadow thing was stalking her, watching her every day. It scared her a lot but she always shook off the feeling when she kissed Will.
But it was odd, how could she put it? Everything that had to do with Will in a good way seemed to make everything worse on her. Ashly giggled softly starring into the floor. She remembered one time when she and Will had been standing in the park behind a tree and he had kissed her, suddenly the sprinklers turned on ruining their kiss. Every time something sweet happened between them something bad always happened later on, mostly in her dreams.
Ashly stretched awkwardly and gazed around her room again. She shrugged slightly and turned off her light again, slowly stumbling her way back to her bed. She closed her eyes, pictures of the boy flashed through her mind. His silver eyes mocked her and his lips were quirked up in a sneer.
"You know you can't resist-you like this-you're not getting what you want from Will-let me give it to you-mine eternally." The last words blew through her mind slowly. She could still feel his demanding lips on hers, his mouth wanting more and more from her. The warmth from it, the smooth intenseness in his mysterious and wonderful voice. She could still feel him kiss her the way Will had never kissed her.
"I belong to no man," she hissed acidly to the night, as if someone where watching her. With that she rolled over in her bed and closed her eyes even more tightly. They burned from the strength, but nonetheless she kept them closed, afraid to open them and see the shadow staring at her again. They began to slowly water up, however she soon became used to the slight pain and drifted off to sleep. But the guy still stayed in her mind, haunting her dreams, trying to get what he wanted from her.
"Mine eternally..."
