Monday: Its such a dreary day. Its been so cold lately. And the rain won't stop. It just keeps falling from the sky. It's been going for almost a week now. The streets are getting flooded, and that dirty river that runs next to the school is about to overflow.
Tuesday: When I walked out of school, the rain still hadn't stopped. As I walked down the road outside the school to get home, I noticed that my feet were sloshing through water. Cars that drove by kicked up water so that I had to jump out of the way to avoid it. When I got to the bridge that went over the river, I noticed that the river was flooding backyards next to the river.
Wednesday: I'm surprised that we had school today. The rain isn't stopping. It won't stop. The houses next to the river are getting water in their houses now. At the end of 8th period, I left my US History class and went down the stairs for French II. There was about a half of inch of water covering the floor. We all got in the class and then the principal came on the loudspeaker. 9th period was cancelled, and school was to be closed until the flooding went down. We all cheered and started for home. I got all the books out of my locker and found an empty one on the second floor. Then I stuck them in there and put my lock on it. I didn't want my books getting wet, I'd have to pay for them.
Thursday: It's been a week, and the rain has barely let up. I don't think that there could be this much water falling from the sky for this amount of time. I slept in since there was no school. I finally forced myself to get out of bed around 10. The basement had water puddles all over it. I picked up all the important stuff and put it on the shelves. Then I grabbed my clothes off of the drying line and took them upstairs. I was about to walk into my room when I heard something in there. My mom was at work, so no one else could be in the house. Maybe my mom got off work because of the rain. "Mum?" I peeked my head in. I screamed. There was something in there. It was like... a troll! That's what they're called. He was short, about 4 feet, and was all wrinkly and light green. His clothes were worn thin and torn in some places. "What are you doing in my room!?"
"Most humble apologies, miss." He dropped my short red dress I wore to homecoming. His voice was small, but it was a very soothing voice. You'd want him to sing you a bedtime song or be on the speech team "But you had so many wonderful things, I couldn't help myself but to look at them all."
"Well-- I-- I don't want to know what you're doing. I want to know why you're here!"
"Miss Talia," I ignored the fact that he knew my name. "I have been sent by my king, to bring you back to his kingdom."
This was all too freaky. "Wait... kings? Do they still exisit? I thought that we were a democracy!"
"Not in your world, miss. You see, I was sent here through a magic portal that was arranged by the court's magician."
"Oh, the magician, now I understand." Do not fear the sarcasm.
"So, then you'll come with me to meet my king?" he asked.
"I don't even know your name."
"My name is Gorbin, miss."
"Gorbin, I'm afraid I can't. You see, as soon as school starts again, I have to take a big Geometry test. It's worth a fourth of my grade."
"Miss, I hate to have to use this method, but I'm afraid you must come."
"I'm not leaving my home."
"Come with me." He grabbed my hand and started to run. He was incredibly strong for such a little critter. He dragged me along to the front porch. "Watch." Gorbin stood with his eyes closed, and deep in concentration for a few minutes. The rain kept pouring down, and then, it stopped.
I looked down at him.
"Talia," Gorbin's eyes narrowed and his eyebrows lowered. His voice no longer sounded as soothing, it now had anger in it. "I just stopped the rain. If I have the power to do that, imagine what I can do if you disobey."
"What would you do?"
"Whatever is necisary, miss," his regular voice returned.
"I refuse to go."
Gorbin got that concentrating look on his face once again. The rain started pouring. Thunder crashed. Then, faster than my eyes could follow, a bolt of lighting came from the clouds and headed straight for me. I screamed. The bolt stopped about 6 inches from my nose and disappeared.
"Miss Talia?"
"Let's go," I gulped, my heart beating a mile a minute.
"I've never seen your hair color before." Gorbin and I were walking to where he said this portal was when he pointed out my hair.
"What? It's normal. And can't you stop the rain? These pants are new."
"I'm sorry, miss. I am not allowed to use my powers frivolously."
"Stop calling me miss. My name is Talia, ya know."
"Yes mi- Talia."
"Can't you at least make me an umbrella?"
"Oh, that I can do." He suddenly stopped walking and got that look of concentration on his face again. And then, appearing in front of me, was an open black umbrella.
"Thank you!" I giggled while picking it up. I twirled it around above my head. "Would you like to stand under here, too?"
"No thank you, mi-- er, Talia. I have my hat."
We continued, then, to walk and not talk. Then he brought up my hair color again. "How did you get your hair to be yellow?"
"It's natural, and it's not yellow. It's blond"
"You mean you were born with it?"
"Just like you were born with that ugly little green face of yours." As soon as I said it, I clamped my right hand over my mouth.
"You think I'M ugly?" I was no longer regretful of what I had said, but sad because his wonderful voice was gone and he sounded angry.
"Gorbin, I'm sorry... I-"
"It's ok. You said what you were thinking. And now I'm going to tell you what I think of you. You are so shallow. I saw all the pictures of your ex-boyfriends in your room. All what you humans call 'pretty boys'. I find you to be very ugly yourself, Talia. Not just on the outside, but on the inside, too."
I felt so hurt. I wasn't shallow, was I? I thought of all the guys I had dated. And I thought of all the ones who asked me out and I laughed at. " Gorbin... you're right." I felt such sorrow and regret in my chest.
"Talia..." The weight seemed to lift away when Gorbin's soothing voice spoke my name. "Let's just go."
We walked for almost a mile, before he suddenly stopped and said, "We're here."
